Sheffield United are now seemingly pushing ahead in the race to sign Nottingham Forest captain Joe Worrall on deadline day – amid reports that Leeds United made an offer for Worrall last night.
Worrall, 27, has struggled for game time at Forest this season. He has fallen down the pecking order at The City Ground after captaining Forest to promotion and then survival last term. He is set to leave.
It was claimed that Leeds and Sheffield United made loan offers for Worrall last night. But, they were told that Forest only wanted a permanent sale and rejected bids. A fee of £6m was required to get him.
Reports then said that the former Rangers loanee wanted to leave Forest on deadline day amid interest from Leeds and Chris Wilder’s side. He has now been told he can go, and leave his boyhood club.
Now, The Telegraph (February 1, 12.40) claim on their deadline day blog, that Sheffield United are in talks to sign Worrall and a deal is expected to arrive for the centre-back. They say he is ‘free to leave’.

Worrall would have been a very solid signing in the Championship. A player that is renowned for being good in the air, good with the ball and a leader. A right-footed version, really, of captain Liam Cooper.
It would have been a good signing but with the offer of playing regularly for Sheffield United in the top tier, or joining Leeds where he might not have got much game time. The Blades are set to win that race.
