Manchester United view Leeds United defender Robin Koch as a ‘cut-price fall-back option’ at centre back this summer.
That is according to the Independent, who report Man United could pursue a move for Koch if they are unable to land first choice targets Kim Min-Jae and Axel Diasi.
Napoli’s Min-Jae is currently being targeted by a host of clubs across Europe due to a £45 million release clause in his contract.
However, Bayern Munich are currently leading the race for his signature and are looking to tie up a deal in the coming weeks, which could force Man United to look elsewhere.
One alternative they can have been scouting is AS Monaco’s Diasi, though with ongoing uncertainty surrounding their takeover, Koch could be an option they look at to save funds for elsewhere.
Man United eye Koch as fall-back option
Koch is almost certain to leave Leeds this summer after the club’s relegation, with the 26-year-old keen to force his way back into the international setup with Germany.
There have been contrasting reports as to how much Leeds will be able to command for Koch this summer, with journalists in his native homeland insisting he can leave for free.
However, that claim has been disputed by various media outlets in England, while Phil Hay says he may be able to leave on loan.
As such, competition looks set to be high for his signature in the coming weeks, with Man United also joined in the race by Tottenham Hotspur, among other Premier League and Bundesliga clubs.
Koch has just 12 months remaining on his current deal at Elland Road and played 36 of Leeds’ 38 Premier League matches last season.
