German newspaper Bild claim talks for Leeds United defender Robin Koch have entered the “decisive round” with the report still insisting he can be signed on a free transfer – with Newcastle and Manchester United in the mix.
Koch, 26, was one of our most-consistent players last season, albeit in a defence that ended the campaign as the worst in the Premier League. He has entered the final 12 months of the four-year deal he signed at Leeds in 2020.
There have been contrasting reports regarding whether Koch can leave on a free, or will cost a figure. It might be that Leeds let him go on loan, before securing a permanent free transfer next summer. Talks are at a crucial stage.
Indeed, Bild say that negotiations are at an advanced stage for Koch to leave Leeds – with three clubs in the bidding. They are Frankfurt, Newcastle and Manchester United. They continue to claim that Koch can leave Leeds on a free.

So, it looks as if Koch is about to go. Frankfurt, Newcastle or Manchester United? Well, the latter would see him fail to start – and any relationship with Leeds fans will go down the toilet. Newcastle would also see him struggle to play.
There is certainly, a chance he can overtake Fabian Schar. But, the Swiss defender has been excellent and will earn the right to play next season – and in the Champions League. It makes Koch back-up. A return to Germany is best.
Not only would see him start for a side in the Europa Conference League and pushing for the top five in the German Bundesliga, but it would also see him strengthen his chances of returning to the Germany fold ahead of Euro 2024.
