Italian outlet Calcio Mercato claim Liverpool have joined Merseyside rivals Everton in the race to sign Leeds United attacker Willy Gnonto – after the Italian made his Premier League debut at Anfield last season, under Jesse Marsch.
Gnonto, 19, continues to be linked with a whole host of clubs. Just this week, Italian outlet Calcio In Pillole said that Fiorentina could offer Leeds a player in a deal to land the 11-time Italy star. His price tag is said to be around £18m.
The interest in Gnonto comes after Leeds signed the Italian from Swiss side Zurich on deadline day last summer. He managed just 29 outings for Leeds, having a hand in eight goals. But that has proven enough to attract many clubs.
Liverpool are now the latest club to be suggested as pursuing a move for Gnonto, joining Everton in the race for the Leeds star. Nothing will be done until Gnonto’s participation with Italy’s U21 side is over. They face Norway tonight.

Gnonto of course, made his debut at Anfield in the historic 2-1 win over Jurgen Klopp’s side. Having been made to wait for his Leeds bow, Gnonto came on as a sub, supplying the cross that saw Cree Summerville score the winner.
He is expected to go. A move to Liverpool will certainly appeal, but Gnonto will have to weigh up whether a move to Anfield would see him continue his development. Chances of him starting under Klopp would dramatically lessen.
So, is a move to Liverpool the right one, at this moment in time? Perhaps for Gnonto, he needs to go to a side that currently sit in mid-table positions – before joining a club like Liverpool. A really important decision to be made.
