A report from Italian outlet Calcio in Pillole claim Europa Conference League finalists Fiorentina could offer Leeds the chance to sign a player in a deal for Willy Gnonto – but question whether any Fiorentina player would want to join us.
Fiorentina have been strongly linked with a move for Gnonto. Calcio Mercato claim that Fiorentina and AC Milan are among the clubs to have made an enquiry, but were put off by our demands of around £18m. But they have a plan.
Indeed, the new report says that Fiorentina could look to reduce the asking price by including a player in a deal to sign Gnonto from Leeds. Gnonto is currently with Italy’s U21 side, who need a win on Tuesday night against Norway.

Gnonto will come up against Leeds duo Kris Klaesson and Leo Hjelde, with Norway already out. A win for Italy will see them progress into the knockout rounds, unless Switzerland produce a shock win against Illan Meslier’s France.
So, while Gnonto’s future will be unclear until his U21 involvement ends, things are moving. Gnonto has been linked with a whole host of Premier League and Serie A clubs. Now, Fiorentina are hoping to steal a march on their rivals.
Fiorentina could offer Leeds a player in a deal for Willy Gnonto

Fiorentina have a squad that should be pushing for European qualification in Serie A. A disappointing campaign in Serie A was made to look a lot better due to their Conference League exploits. They may still get European football.
Juventus will wait to find out if they are even in the Conference League after their points deduction. The Old Lady’s rule breaking may see them banned from European competition next term and if so, Fiorentina will win their place.
So, why would any half-decent Fiorentina player want to leave a huge institution in Serie A with potential European football on offer – to join Leeds? It remains to be seen if the “fantastic” Gnonto would want to join Fiorentina, too.
