Leeds United are really starting to motor in the race for automatic promotion under Daniel Farke.
The Whites have won seven Championship matches in a row since the turn of the New Year with Farke’s side now sat second in the table for the first time all season.
Leeds’ form has taken a similar sort of pattern to that of Farke’s Norwich City sides from earlier in his career, where he twice won the Championship title after incredible second halves of the season.
With that in mind, there have been suggestions today that Leeds are already looking to hand Farke a new contract, though a new report from the Yorkshire Evening Post has disregarded those claims.
It is said that talk of a new deal is very much ‘premature’ at this stage, and Farke’s full focus is on ensuring Leeds return to the Premier League at the first attempt.
Farke contract talks premature
Farke’s preference is for any contract talks to take place at the end of the season, but at the same time, there is no rush for that to happen given his current deal does not expire until 2027.
The article does also state that Leeds chiefs including Angus Kinnear and Gretar Steinsson are delighted with the work Farke is doing, and made that clear after Tuesday’s win at Swansea City.
Farke currently has Leeds 10 points ahead of where they were under Marcelo Bielsa during the title-winning campaign of 2019/20, but the standard at the top means it is all still to play for.
The 47-year-old made his desire to manage in the Premier League again clear when he accepted the job at Leeds in the summer, and he will be hoping he can achieve that at Elland Road this season.
For now, though, any talk of a new contract is wide of the mark and no doubt it is just water under the bridge for Farke, who is fully focused on the promotion battle.
