Report: Leeds now make offer for 31-year-old midfielder

Leeds United have made a contract offer to midfielder Adam Forshaw on reduced terms.

That is according to TeamTalk, who report Forshaw is now weighing up his options with several other clubs keeping tabs on his situation.

Forshaw was included on the list of players to be released by Leeds on June 30 alongside Joel Robles, though both have been handed the opportunity to return for pre-season.

Despite their initial release, it was also reported almost instantly that Forshaw could be offered a new deal at Leeds and it now appears as though the club have made him an offer.

The 31-year-old has struggled with injuries for almost three years now and the reported reduced terms of the contract would be representative of that, given his varying availability.

Leeds make Forshaw fresh contract offer

This is a difficult one for Leeds as there is no doubting the quality he has, particularly in possession when he plays.

Forshaw featured in all four of Sam Allardyce’s matches in charge at the end of last season and was arguably Leeds’ best player, outshining a number of big money stars alongside him.

However, unfortunately for Forshaw, he just cannot be relied on for a prolonged period of time due to his fitness, and Leeds have paid the penalty for being over reliant on him as backup in each of the last two seasons.

If Forshaw does put pen-to-paper on a new deal, Leeds must still undergo a midfield rebuild this summer with Weston McKennie already having left, and Marc Roca and Tyler Adams potentially set to follow.

You could argue on top of Forshaw and Darko Gyabi, Leeds still would require a minimum of three midfielders to ensure they are not left short in that position once again.
