The Sun claim Brendan Rodgers is set to take a break away from football before planning his next career move this summer – amid reported interest from Leeds United, and the potential of a return to Scottish champions Celtic.
Rodgers, 50, remains out of a job after a four-year stint at Leicester came to an end in April, as the Foxes chose to go in a new direction in order to avoid the drop. Dean Smith failed to keep Leicester in the League, finishing in 18th.
The Northern Irishman has hardly had a break over the last 13 years. Joining Swansea in 2010, there was no break before his move to Liverpool in 2012. After three sapping years at Anfield, he had almost a year out before Celtic.
But that was only his time on the sidelines. Almost three years at Celtic was instantly followed by four years at the King Power. The Star say Andrea Radrizzani wants Rodgers at Leeds. Sky Sports say Celtic are keen on a return.
But The Sun state that Rodgers is not open to a role at the moment. He is looking to take a ‘sabbatical’ after seven years without a break in management – and less than a year out in 13 years. Leeds and Celtic must look elsewhere.
Rodgers to take break from football amid Leeds and Celtic interest
There are plenty of managers on the Leeds radar. Regis Le Bris, Steven Gerrard, Scott Parker, Graham Potter and plenty of other gaffers have been linked with the Leeds job. Rodgers was always an ambitious option for the club.
He is a Premier League standard manager. A manager that only lost his job at Leicester largely because the club did not back him in the window in the summer prior to his exit. Failing to replace big players. Rodgers is not an option.
