Wilfried Gnonto’s agent is now reportedly in London finalising a move from Leeds United to Everton.

That is according to an exclusive from Sport Italia, who report ‘white smoke’ could arrive in the coming hours with Gnonto’s agent Claudio Vigorelli in the English capital wrapping up a deal.

This is just the latest claim from the Italian press that Gnonto is now close to a move to Everton with the same outlet last week reporting a bid of around £18 million was accepted.

However, those claims later went onto be disputed by the English media, though several outlets did report over the weekend that Leeds knocked back a £15 million bid.

Instead, as per Phil Hay, Leeds could look to tie Gnonto to a new contract as the Whites look to reward him for a fine debut season at Elland Road.

Again, this feels like a premature claim from the Italian press based on how many times they have now claimed that Gnonto is close to a switch to Everton.

There is no doubting Everton’s interest in the 19-year-old, but whether they can afford Leeds‘ asking price is another question.

San Francisco 49ers Enterprises have earmarked Gnonto as someone they are desperate to keep and build a team around this season, after such an impressive run in the side last term that prompted Gary Neville to hail him as ‘absolutely fantastic’ on Sky Sports commentary duty in Leeds’ 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa.

Gnonto still has four years left to run on his contract at Elland Road which does not include a relegation release clause.

Those two factors put Leeds in a good position to either keep him or sell for big money, which Everton may not be able to afford.
