Report: 40-year-old with £2m release clause now ruled out of Leeds manager search

Carlos Corberan is no longer in the running to become Leeds United’s next manager.

That is according to the Sun, who report while Leeds have held talks with the Spaniard over succeeding Sam Allardyce, the club have opted against appointing him as their new boss.

They also claim Leeds would prefer to appoint a manager not currently in employment, with Corberan reportedly containing a £2 million release clause in his contract at West Bromwich Albion.

It is the second time this year Leeds have considered Corberan as their next manager but then looked elsewhere, with the 40-year-old having also been a target to replace Jesse Marsch back in February.

The ending of Leeds’ interest in Corberan now looks to have narrowed their final shortlist down to three as they continue to push for an appointment this week.

Patrick Vieira is the latest name to be linked with the position at Elland Road, with the Sun also reporting Leeds are keen to speak to him.

He joins both Daniel Farke and Scott Parker as the list of remaining contenders for the position, all of whom are out of work.

Farke was most recently at Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach, while Parker endured a miserable spell at Club Brugge last season. Vieira has been out of work since his exit from Crystal Palace in March.

Both Farke and Parker have two Championship promotions on their CV, with the latter also having been linked with a move to Leicester City prior to their appointment of Enzo Maresca.

Based on the football he had Norwich City playing on such a shoestring budget, Farke is surely the leading contender and it feels at this stage as though Leeds supporters would be disappointed if it isn’t him.
