Report: 26-year-old’s Leeds move held up as club wait for exit of Portuguese star

Marc Roca’s move from Leeds United to Real Betis is being held up due to the future of William Carvalho.

That is according to ABC Sevilla, who report Betis are waiting for Carvalho to depart the club this summer before they launch a move to sign Roca from the Whites.

Despite reports an agreement between the two clubs was imminent, Betis are yet to make an official offer for Roca, though it is now clear as to why there has been a hold up.

Carvalho is reportedly likely to make the move to Saudi Arabia during the current transfer window but his exit has been on hold in recent days, which has slowed Betis down in their quest for new signings.

However, the report states Betis will look to get Carvalho’s departure back on track so they can get to work on replacing him with the addition of Roca.

Carvalho’s departure will provide Betis with the necessary finance to finally make an official move for Roca, with rumours having been rife ever since Leeds were relegated.

It is said that Roca is keen to make the switch this summer after struggling to make an impact in the Premier League, and a return to his native homeland looks the most likely destination at this stage.

Though a permanent deal would almost certainly be more beneficial to Leeds, Betis are instead looking to sign Roca on loan, with a potential option-to-buy at the end of the season.

Betis will certainly need to move fast, though, with Sevilla and Girona also having been mentioned as potential destinations.

The former will be able to tempt Roca with the prospect of Champions League football and are also set to appoint Victor Orta as their new sporting director.
