Marc Roca’s loan switch from Leeds United to Real Betis is currently being delayed due to salary issues at the Spanish side.
That is according to Mucho Deporte, who report Betis cannot close out the deal until they know their salary limit, though it is not expected to be a problem that keeps it on hold for several weeks.
It has been reported Betis have already agreed to take Roca on loan for the season in the wake of Leeds’ relegation, with the La Liga outfit set to cover all of the midfielder’s wages to avoid paying a loan fee.
It was previously unclear as to whether Betis would insert an option-to-buy in the deal, though this latest report does indeed indicate the two clubs are negotiating one.
Betis are also said to be keen on wrapping the deal up as soon as possible having also been in the running for his signature 12 months ago, when Leeds pipped them to his signing from Bayern Munich.
Roca’s Leeds exit delayed
While it is important to get the moving blocks into place for this summer, it doesn’t appear as though this will be too big of a problem.
Despite their salary concerns, it is not expected to be a saga that runs on for a number of weeks and as such, Roca is expected to be the first of many leaving this summer.
With Roca set to depart, Weston McKennie’s loan spell having ended, Adam Forshaw released and Tyler Adams attracting heavy interest from elsewhere, midfield is an area that will need a revamp.
Now their wages are off the books, though, it could allow Leeds to begin pursuing some of their top targets, providing a managerial appointment is wrapped up quickly.
Leeds have already been linked with a move for Coventry City’s Gustavo Hamer, which would be a real statement of intent from the 49ers.
