Ray Parlour says one thing has ‘surprised’ him about former Leeds United star Crysencio Summerville

Leeds United had to make some tough transfer decisions in the summer, with Daniel Farke once again in the frame for a busy window this January

Leeds had to make some interesting choices in the summer transfer window after they failed to return to the Premier League at the first attempt.

The Whites banked around £132.7 million from last summer’s sales alone, emphasising the significant clear-out at Elland Road this season.

One player in particular has struggled to meet the expectations of a move away from Leeds but it’s no real fault of his own.

Ray Parlour and Alan Brazil ‘surprised’ with the treatment of Crysencio Summerville at West Ham

Crysencio Summerville was a gem at Leeds last season, the Dutch winger was involved in 31 goals in all competitions at Elland Road and it was always going to be hard to keep hold of him after Leeds’ promotion failure.

West Ham came knocking and signed the 23-year-old for £25 million as big things were expected of the winger in the Premier League.

However, so far it’s been anything but that, as Hammers boss Julian Lopetegui has given Summerville limited game time having only started six games this season.

Speaking on TalkSport (2:53:30), Ray Parlour and Alan Brazil couldn’t understand why Summerville was getting such bizarre treatment from Lopetegui.

Brazil: “He’s one of them who gets you on the edge of your seat!”

“He takes people on, his work-rate is very good – I’m surprised he doesn’t start more!” added Parlour.

Stuart Dallas believes West Ham spell ‘hasn’t really happened’ for Summerville so far

It’s a confusing watch from a Leeds fan’s perspective, as you’d think selling your 31-goal contributor would tear it up in the Premier League.

This may be no fault of his own due to the way Lopetegui has treated his game time with not much respect, but from a Leeds standpoint, any Whites fan would tell you how much talent the 23-year-old has.

Former Leeds United star Stuart Dallas has previously commented saying it ‘hasn’t really happened’ for the Dutchman in the Premier League so far.

“Whenever I have seen him running, I was watching him, and I was thinking, he started jogging and I thought, typical, and then he just took off. I don’t know if you have seen it, the sliding tackle, at the end.

“Fair play to him. But, yeah, he’s a big signing for them as well and it hasn’t really happened for him. I think the Man United game where he scored, sort of taken off, but…”

There’s still plenty of time for Summerville to show his worth to West Ham, but Lopetegui has to give him the chance.
