Rangers could now strike deal for £5.5m player after Leeds United were in talks to sign him

Leeds United are one of a number of clubs keen on signing Hellas Verona left-back Josh Doig this month, but Rangers are also interested – and it is claimed the Ibrox club could land him in a swap.

Doig, 21, has impressed in Italian football over the last 18 months. Forced to wait for his breakthrough into Verona’s side after swapping Hibernian for Serie A, he had a hand in six goals in 22 games last term.

This term, another 12 senior outings for Verona. Leeds, Rangers, Monza and Torino are all said to be showing interest, and even in talks. A further report this week said Verona were willing to sell, for £5.5m.

Now, another twist. With Rangers in talks for him, but it being unclear if they can afford his asking price, a different type of deal could be orchestrated. That is because Verona want Rangers star Ridvan Yilmaz.

The Turkish left-back has struggled with injury at Ibrox, and could be allowed to exit. Gianluca Di Marzio claims, as per The Sun, that Verona are keen. The Sun say a swap may occur, involving Doig and Yilmaz.

Doig would be a wonderful signing, for Rangers or for Leeds. A player that is excellent going forward and is still incredibly young – though, incredibly experienced. Already, he has played 119 senior matches.

Called up by Scotland, too. A move to Leeds would instantly give Doig a path into English football and then the chance to play in the Premier League. But Rangers would give him European football, and titles.

A big decision to make for Doig, who could also opt to remain in Italy and join a bigger side in the likes of Torino – who need to replace Nottingham Forest’s Ola Aina. Monza are also interested in signing Doig.
