Willy Gnonto was linked with a move to Everton from Leeds United in the summer and his game time has since been very limited ahead of Euro 2024 – and now, Rudy Galetti says Everton are still keen.

Gnonto, 20, was a surprise signing in the summer of 2022. But he made an instant impact at Elland Road under Jesse Marsch, having a hand in eight goals in 28 games during 2022-23. This term, not so much.

He refused to play for three games at the start of 23-24 against Birmingham City, Shrewsbury Town and West Bromwich Albion. He’s since returned, but has lost his place in the starting XI under Daniel Farke.

Back in the summer, reports said that a move to Everton collapsed because of the Toffees’ structuring a deal in numerous payments. Leeds refused to accept that way of payment, for Gnonto to join Everton.

Since then, Leeds are set to sue Everton for our relegation – with Jack Harrison’s loan side suffering a 10-point deduction. However, Galetti says Everton are still working on a deal to sign Gnonto from Leeds.

Everton are still working on a deal for Leeds attacker Willy Gnonto

The Italian reporter says Everton have been in talks for weeks over a deal for the former Zurich and Inter Milan attacker. They are ‘still working’ on a move but it is unclear if Leeds have softened their stance.

A recent report from Italy said that The 49ers had given the ‘green light’ to sell him, with Roma, Lazio and Fiorentina keen on a £13m deal. It remains to be seen how much Everton would have to splash out.

Gnonto is expected to be involved and possibly start on Sunday when Leeds take on Peterborough in The FA Cup, with Farke likely to make a number of changes and bring some of his fringe players in.
