Leeds United are said to be closing in on a deal to sign Burnley defender Connor Roberts and a move now seems to be getting even closer – with Burnley now set to sign his replacement, too.
Roberts, 28, has been linked with Leeds for much of the January window and reports now state that Daniel Farke is closing in on a move for the Wales star. It takes our Wales contingent to four players.
Nothing has been confirmed as of yet and it is unclear if it is a loan deal or a permanent signing. But, it looks as if Burnley are preparing for life without the £2.5m signing, by bringing in a replacement.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Burnley are set to complete the signing of Rennes right-back Lorenz Assignon. The Italian journalist says the 23-year-old will join Burnley on loan, with a permanent option.
Clearly, Burnley have moved to replace Roberts with the Wales defender now being linked with a move to Leeds stronger than ever. It is believed Leeds are actually close to landing the 54-time Wales man.

Roberts is a fantastic signing and actually, Assignon is a good addition for Burnley. The Frenchman has impressed over at Rennes, coming into the starting line-up after Djed Spence left Rennes in the summer.
What it does mean, is that it allows Burnley to green light a move for Roberts to move to Elland Road. It sees Roberts reunite with Dan James and Joe Rodon at club level – after playing with them at Swansea.
