Plymouth manager blown away by one thing Leeds United were able to do last night

Plymouth Argyle manager Ian Foster has delivered his verdict on his side’s 4-1 defeat to Leeds United last night.

Just like in the original fixture at Elland Road, Argyle were able to hold Leeds to a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes of football, but eventually the strength in depth was able to shine through.

Leeds introduced the likes of Crysencio Summerville, Georginio Rutter and Archie Gray from the bench, and with space galore in extra time, the former two ran riot with a goal and assist apiece.

In the end, Leeds were able to make it look like a comfortable score line by running out 4-1 winners, with 210 minutes of football eventually enough to separate the two sides.

Speaking in his post-match press conference after the game, Foster admitted the ‘quality’ Leeds were able to bring off the bench was just too much to deal with for his side.

Foster praises Leeds class off the bench

He said: “I’m proud of how difficult we’ve made it for Leeds over two games. The score line is quite sobering for us. The quality they bring on late on was very challenging for us.”

Foster was highly complimentary of Leeds before both last night’s game, and the original tie, and so it is no surprise to see him being so honest in his assessment of the match.

Leeds will again face a trip to Plymouth in just 10 days’ time for a league encounter, but that will arguably be an even tougher match for Daniel Farke’s side, with the home side’s squad so short last night.

Plymouth will be able to call on the likes of former Leeds midfielder Adam Forshaw, and Tottenham loanee Alfie Devine in the league. They couldn’t even name a full bench on Tuesday.

However, as proved last night, Leeds have so much quality in the squad that is extremely difficult for defenders at this level to cope with.
