Everton are now back in talks with Leeds United over a deal for Wilfried Gnonto.
That is according to Sky Sports, who report the Toffees have not given up on the signing of the 19-year-old as tonight’s 11pm deadline fast approaches.
It is said that Leeds have ‘maintained’ their stance that Gnonto will not be sold this summer, with San Francisco 49ers Enterprises having made that clear throughout the window.
Right from the moment Leeds were relegated in May, Gnonto was earmarked as a player 49ers were desperate to keep and have so far managed to fend off interest, though could be tested again.
Everton had appeared to be looking elsewhere in their search for a winger, and as per the Mail, are also keen on Luis Sinisterra, but it would appear Gnonto is still a priority target.
Everton remain in talks with Leeds over Gnonto
Gnonto handed in a transfer request earlier this month in an attempt to force through a move to Everton, after refusing to play in matches against Birmingham City and Shrewsbury Town.
Leeds held firm, though, and Gnonto has since been reintegrated back into the fold under Daniel Farke, scoring in the 4-3 win at Ipswich Town last weekend.
Leeds remain in a decent position to keep Gnonto as he still has four years left to run on his deal and no relegation release clause, meaning it would take a big fee.
As per Sky Sports, Everton have already had four offers rejected by Leeds for Gnonto, the most recent of which totalled £25 million.
It is certainly going to be a long day until tonight’s 11pm deadline as Leeds continue to fight to keep their best players.
