Leeds United are most likely to strengthen at left-back and attacking midfield in January, though a quiet month is expected.
Daniel Farke already has an extremely strong squad at his disposal following a summer window which saw Leeds sign a total of nine new players.
Leeds almost have two players for every position and so according to Phil Hay of the Athletic, they will only bring someone in if they have a genuine chance of breaking into the starting XI, which is currently settled.
At left-back, Leeds have both Sam Byram and Junior Firpo as options but neither are the most reliable in terms of staying fit, with the latter having only made his first appearance of the season last time out.
Joel Piroe, meanwhile, is currently the closest Leeds have to an attacking midfielder in their first choice XI and while that dynamic is working alongside Georginio Rutter, he isn’t an out and out number 10.
A number 10 would be useful for Leeds in January
If Rutter was to get injured for a prolonged period of time, Leeds don’t really have anyone in those central positions who can replace his creativity.
With 15, Rutter is comfortably the player who has created the most big chances in the division so far, meaning a creative attacking midfielder would make sense, as Piroe could then push slightly further forward.
Patrick Bamford would, of course, be the most likely player to replace Rutter – which could be the case on Friday at Rotherham United – but he is a completely different type of player.
Hay referenced Leeds’ interest in Nadiem Amiri in the summer as something which could indicate Farke is still keen on a number 10.
Amiri would still represent a very solid signing in January despite his summer antics, but Hay believes that Leeds are more likely to make use of the loan market.
