Leeds United should reignite midfielder interest in January, 23-year-old can be sold to make way

January does not look as though it will be a busy window at Leeds United.

The Whites conducted a lot of both incoming and outgoing business during the summer, as nine players came in to make way for the 17 that departed after relegation.

However, with Leeds looking likely to be in a position where they will be competing for automatic promotion, it would be foolish to completely disregard it.

The squad always has scope for improvement and Leeds have made the mistake in the past of deciding not to utilise it, which has come back to cost them later in the season.

So, with that in mind, here is one player Leeds should sign in January, and one they should sell.

Sign – Nadiem Amiri

This maybe a tad controversial given how Leeds’ pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen’s Amiri ended in the summer, but if there is one area Daniel Farke’s current squad is lacking, it is at number 10.

Joel Piroe has been playing centrally just in behind Georginio Rutter this season, but if the latter was to get injured, Leeds would lose pretty much all of their creativity from down the middle.

Amiri, while a completely different player to Rutter, could come in and provide Leeds with exactly that due to his passing quality in the final third.

Since snubbing Leeds, Amiri has played just six minutes of football for Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, having been left out of the Europa League squad completely.

Amiri is now reportedly keen to leave the German league leaders in January according to Kicker, via Fussball Transfers, and a move to Leeds would make sense.

Sell – Ian Poveda

Having looked destined to leave Leeds in the summer, Poveda’s pre and early season performances forced his way right into Farke’s plans.

However, due to the form of pretty much all of Leeds‘ attacking options, Poveda has seen game time reduced considerably over the last couple of months.

Since starting at Birmingham City in the second game of the season, Poveda has played just 21 minutes of Championship football.

Poveda’s contract is set to expire at Leeds next summer and January represents the perfect time for all parties to move on.

Leeds would be able to recoup some sort of fee, while Poveda can find himself a permanent home where he can go play regular football and kick start his career.
