Manchester City could end up paying in excess of £5 million to sign Leeds United youngster Finley Gorman.

That is according to the Athletic, who report that the contract includes several ‘long-term add-ons and incentives’ which could earn Leeds over £5 million.

It is also said that the up-front payment from City to Leeds is set to be a British record for a 15-year-old, with the treble winners viewing Gorman as a ‘generational talent’ they had to invest in.

It was first reported by Phil Hay on Monday that a deal had been struck between the two clubs over a deal for Gorman, with his move expected to be officially finalised in due course.

Due to his age, Gorman is not yet eligible to sign professional terms which ultimately left Leeds powerless once he made it clear it was his desire to make the move to City.

While it is disappointing for Leeds to be losing a player of Gorman’s talent at such a young age, they can take consolation in the fact they have agreed a decent fee.

It is always a risk for clubs to splash so much money on a player still someway off first team football, but Leeds have managed to get a decent fee up front, and are also covered if he does go onto fulfil his potential.

It is not yet confirmed what the exact nature of the add-ons are, but given his age, it is likely that they will be more appearance based at this stage.

But Gorman may not be the only Leeds youngster City look to prise to the Etihad Stadium, with Archie Gray’s younger brother Harry now said to be on their radar, according to TeamTalk.

It would be a disappointment if Gray was to follow Gorman out of the exit door at such a young age, and a poor reflection of where football is. Hopefully Archie and the rest of his family can convince him to stay.
