Manchester City and Leeds United have agreed a £1.5m initial fee for talented 15-year-old Finlay Gorman – but add-ons could take a deal north of £2m, a British record for a player of that age.

That is according to 90Min. Gorman is well ahead of the upward curve in terms of development having already broken into the Leeds U18 side – scoring twice, laying on an assist in five U18 League games.

Manchester City have come calling with Gorman currently impressing for England’s U16 side in France. Phil Hay reported on The Athletic’s website this week that City were set to complete a move for Gorman.

Now, 90Min have reported on their website that Leeds agreed an initial £1.5m fee with Pep Guardiola’s Premier League champions. With add-ons, a deal could go north of £2m – becoming a British record.

A record for a British 15-year-old anyway, currently held by Raheem Sterling when Liverpool paid an initial £450,000 to QPR – only for add-ons to take it to £2m. Gorman is set for a move to Man City.

Man City and Leeds United agree £1.5m fee for Finlay Gorman

It is a huge fee and a massive vote of confidence in Gorman from City, that he will go on to become a real talent in the future. Certainly, eyes will be planted on Gorman, now he has a £2m price on his head.

It might be a few years before Gorman ever gets his chance in City’s senior side and follows in the steps of Rico Lewis and Phil Foden. But, he certainly has every chance and City believe he is capable of it.

For Leeds, it is a solid initial fee for a player that might never make it – potential is not an exact science. Of course, Gorman might go on to be worth a lot more – but it sees Leeds initially gain a decent fee.
