Phil Hay says Leeds player open to exit has trained today, clause activated by PL club

Tyler Adams has been training at Leeds United today despite Bournemouth having activated his £20 million release clause.

That is according to Phil Hay, who also appeared to hint that the Cherries’ interest in Adams does not seem to have developed as expected.

As per Fabrizio Romano, Bournemouth agreed to meet the release clause in Adams’ contract that became active upon Leeds’ relegation in May.

He also claimed that Adams is open to a move to the South Coast but almost 48 hours later, the 24-year-old remains at Thorp Arch, which would suggest a deal is currently off the cards.

Adams is still currently recovering from a hamstring injury but is expected to be back after the September international break, having been out of action since March.

After a summer that has been plagued with talk over relegation release clauses, Daniel Farke seemingly hinted in his press conference today that Leeds are now in a far better position regarding exits.

He claimed that the last few days has seen Leeds move more and more into the driving seat, which could suggest those aforementioned clauses have now expired.

He said: “We spoke quite open, honest and transparent that it would be a bumpy August. The closer we edge towards the end of the transfer window the more and more we are in control of the situation. This is what’s happened over the last days. It’s eased up. The closer we edge towards the window we are more in the driving seat.”

With that in mind, it appears as though Bournemouth could well have ran out of time to get a deal done for Adams for the valuation of his £20 million release clause.

This puts Leeds in a win-win situation regarding Adams’ future, as they are now either in a very strong position to keep him, or sell at a price more reflective of his value.
