Leeds United have not ruled out the addition of another centre-back after Joe Rodon’s arrival from Tottenham Hotspur.
That is according to Phil Hay of the Athletic, who reports the ‘door is still open to the possibility’ of Leeds bringing in more bodies in central defence, with Nat Phillips still a player of interest.
Rodon is expected to become Leeds’ fourth signing of the summer after a season-long-loan deal was agreed with Tottenham Hotspur.
He is set to follow his Wales international teammate Ethan Ampadu in moving to Elland Road, with Karl Darlow and Sam Byram also having made the switch.
Leeds have moved quickly to step up their pursuit of a new centre-back after losing captain Liam Cooper to an eight-week injury in Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Cardiff City.
Leeds could sign Phillips even after Rodon arrival
Once Rodon’s signing is officially confirmed, Daniel Farke will have three fit centre-backs at his disposal with Charlie Cresswell and Pascal Struijk already on the books.
While Cooper has been given an eight-week injury timeframe, due to the nature of the injury, there is no certainty the problem will be fully behind him.
Cooper has injured his plantar fascia, a problem Patrick Bamford was nursing for over a year and it is something that simply cannot be rushed.
As such, the door still remains open for another centre-back to come in and Liverpool’s Phillips is someone who remains an option, according to Hay.
It would be a surprise to see Leeds splash out the £10 million asking price on Phillips after bringing in Rodon, and surely Liverpool will have to come to some sort of compromise if they want to move him on permanently.
