Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams has a release clause of £20 million in his contract.
That is according to Phil Hay and Tom Bogert of the Athletic, who report of a clause in Adams’ deal that became active when Leeds were relegated from the Premier League in May.
Adams made the move to Elland Road from Red Bull Leipzig last summer for a fee in the region of £20 million, and as per the Athletic, his relegation release clause is somewhere around that figure.
The 24-year-old is among the players from last season’s first team squad Leeds are keen to keep, with San Francisco 49ers Enterprises hopeful of building a promotion winning team around him.
He was one of very few shining lights from last season’s dismal relegation campaign, and Leeds really missed him in the final 12 matches as he picked up a hamstring injury.
Adams has £20 million release clause in Leeds contract
After picking up that injury in March, Adams is still yet to return to full training after suffering a setback in his recovery during the summer.
New manager Daniel Farke claimed last weekend Adams would be missing until after the September international break.
That said, Adams did upload a video onto his Instagram of him running back out on the grass earlier this week, in what was a welcome sight for Leeds supporters.
It is unclear at this stage how much that injury is affecting interested clubs from making their move, with Aston Villa, Brighton and Newcastle United among those said to be keen.
With over a month left of the transfer window, Leeds still have plenty of time before they can rest easily over Adams’ future.
