The Athletic’s Phil Hay has provided an update on Twitter regarding Leeds United’s search for a new boss, claiming the club “really want” Brendan Rodgers but will have a job convincing him – while Daniel Farke has “impressed”.

Leeds are looking to get a manager in next after the 49ers completed a takeover of the club from Andrea Radrizzani. Ahead of what will be a busy summer, the club need to bring in a manager, sporting director and sort out the squad.

Plenty of managers have been linked with the job at Leeds – the likes of Steven Gerrard, Carlos Corberan, Carlos Carvalhal and Scott Parker. But Hay gave an update on the search and only mentioned both Rodgers and Farke.

He says that Leeds really want Rodgers, but that it is not going to be easy to persuade the Northern Irishman to drop into the Championship. Farke is also an option having impressed during talks. Hope to “wrap it up” this week.

Hay says Leeds United really want Rodgers while Farke has impressed

Getting Rodgers – an ex-Celtic, Leicester and Liverpool boss – in the door would be a massive coup. An FA Cup-winning manager, one that has managed in the Champions League regularly, would be huge. But a tricky one.

Indeed, Celtic are looking for a replacement for Ange Postecoglou, who has moved to Tottenham. The Mail claim Celtic sent representatives to Mallorca to speak to Rodgers at his holiday home, over a return to the Scottish side.

Farke, 46, has won two promotions to the Premier League during his stint with Norwich City. Having lost his job with German side Gladbach, he is on the market. But Rodgers would be the one to get fans excited. Farke, a solid plan B.
