The Mail claim that Celtic have jetted out to Mallorca to talk to Leeds United managerial target Brendan Rodgers over the weekend – while the Scottish champions also have Daniel Farke on the list of managers they are looking at.

Rodgers, 50, has been out of work since the sack by Leicester earlier this year. A manager that has sparkled in roles at the likes of Swansea, Liverpool, Celtic and certainly for the first few years at Leicester City – winning the FA Cup.

A return to Celtic, after leaving in such a toxic manner in which fans went from loving the Northern Irishman – to despising him, would be a surprise. But it is clear that the Hoops are considering a move, and have opened talks.

Indeed, chief executive Michael Nicholson and finance director Chris McKay flew by private jet on Saturday to talk to Rodgers in Mallorca – where he owns a holiday home. Rodgers had planned to take a rest from football for a spell.

Rodgers has had less than a year out of the game in the last 13 years – going straight from Swansea to Liverpool, and then Celtic to Leicester. Of course, Leeds are also keen. The Star say he is very much on the Elland Road list.

Rodgers will surely find it difficult to be tempted by a return to Parkhead. He may feel that he is above Celtic at the moments. But, he has a love for the club and is a self-confessed Celtic fan. The chance to return might be now.

Indeed, he has little other options. Hardly one to want to go and manage abroad – he has not done yet – Rodgers will also fancy himself above a drop into the second tier, even with Leeds. Celtic might be the best opportunity he gets.
