Leeds United are reportedly interested in bringing free agent Han-Noah Massengo to Elland Road after his Bristol City contract expired in June – and Phil Hay has now spoken about a possible move for on The Square Ball podcast.
Massengo, 22, has impressed in the Championship. Joining Bristol City for £7m in the summer of 2019 from Ligue 1 side Monaco, after a handful of first-team games. He has gone on to play 110 times for The Robins since his move.
In January, he went on loan to Ligue 1 side Auxerre – playing 15 times for the French side. His form certainly caught the eye, being compared to Edgar Davids by pundit Edouard Cisse – after helping Auxerre beat Lyon in a 2-1 win.
He returns to Bristol City, but his contract has ended. Bristol City will require a compensation fee, as Hay reported on The Athletic website this week that he is a target for Leeds. Hay has now added more detail on a move for him.
“Out of contract, good player. There will be European interest in him, I can see that one being slightly difficult to do. There would be a compensation fee for him, if you’re signing him in England,” Hay said, on The Square Ball podcast.

Massengo would be a superb signing. A player that has supreme talent, clearly good enough for Ligue 1 and with 99 Championship appearances to his name, at Bristol City. Still only 22, and a midfielder – something Leeds really need.
Marc Roca, Tyler Adams and Adam Forshaw could follow Weston McKennie in leaving. So, Massengo would be a top addition. But as Hay says, it will be a difficult one to do. A return to France is probably, his likely move right now.
