Leeds United are reportedly interested in signing Liverpool defender Nat Phillips this summer and now, the ideal chance to strike a player-plus-cash deal between the two sides – after a new report involving attacker Willy Gnonto.
Phillips, 26, managed just five outings for Liverpool in 22-23 – as he remains behind the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate in the pecking order. The Mail say he is keen to leave Liverpool this summer.
Phil Hay reported on The Athletic’s website that Phillips is a genuine target for Leeds. But, he may cost a whopping £10m fee, a lot of cash for a player that managed just five outings last term. Leeds need a right-footed centre-back.
Rasmus Kristensen and Diego Llorente both look set for Roma, on loan. Robin Koch is edging closer and closer to an exit, with Frankfurt leading the charge. A new right-footed centre-back to compete with Charlie Cresswell is ideal.
Phillips could be that man, and Leeds may now find they have a way of getting Phillips – without having to pay a fee. Indeed, actually bring in some cash. CM say this week that Liverpool are battling Everton for Gnonto’s signature.
Ideal chance for player-plus-cash deal between Liverpool and Leeds
Gnonto has been strongly linked with numerous Premier League and Serie A clubs. But Liverpool are now in the mix and it will take a lot for Gnonto to want to turn Liverpool down. If they are keen, we can use that to our advantage.
Indeed, Gnonto – who CM say is rated at £18m by Leeds – could be offered to Liverpool for perhaps a fee in the region of £8m to £10m, plus Phillips. It would suit all. Liverpool want Gnonto, Leeds want Phillips. Both want moves.
So, there is the perfect opportunity to strike a player-plus-cash deal that would see Leeds sign a target of theirs, and sort out Gnonto’s future – also raking in some cash to spend on other positions that require strengthening.
