Leeds United took a big leap towards finishing in the top two with a big win over Swansea City on Tuesday night, with Southampton losing – prompting Micah Richards and Gary Lineker to respond.
A 4-0 win at Swansea, a victory that could have been six or more, saw Leeds make it seven League wins in a row. Six clean sheets in that run. Leeds are the form side and that run is coming at the right time.
The Whites have pushed themselves into the top two, sitting ahead of Southampton by two points. Ipswich sit in fourth, three points behind. But both Southampton and Ipswich still have a game in hand.
Southampton play first this weekend, a difficult trip to Carlos Corberan’s West Brom on Friday night. A game that could be a bit of a banana skin for a Southampton side that suffered defeat only on Tuesday.
Speaking on The Rest Is Football, Micah Richards raved about Leeds and says things are “looking good” for the Yorkshire outfit in their bid to place in the top two. Gary Lineker reacted to Richards’ comments.
“I have got to give a little shout out to Leeds. 4-0 at Swansea. Snuck into second, it’s looking good for the old Yorkshire lads,” Richards said. Lineker replied: “Perfect in 2024. They are really flying, Leeds.”

The loss suffered by Southampton at Bristol City has seen pundits start to talk about the race for the top two, to go up with Leicester – who look destined to win the Championship, a huge 12 points ahead of us.
Daniel Farke and Joel Piroe were asked about Southampton’s loss in the week and while the latter said he was happy to see Saints lose, both made it clear that they were focusing on themselves in the race.
But, this weekend could be just as important. Southampton will be up against it when they go to West Brom tonight – while Leeds should beat Plymouth on Saturday. Ipswich go to Swansea tomorrow.
