Paul Merson has predicted whether Leeds United will win promotion to the Premier League this season after their win over Watford.
The Whites made it six matches unbeaten and back-to-back victories at Elland Road with a 2-1 success over the Hornets, moving them into the Championship’s top two ahead of the rest of the midweek fixtures.
After an opening two months of the season which has already seen them play all but one of the top eight, Leeds are now starting to build up ahead of steam in their push for promotion.
Leeds were a long way from their best against Watford on Tuesday night, but those are the type of matches which can prove crucial at the end of the season.
Farke’s side are three points better off than they were after 11 matches last term, but crucially aren’t cut way adrift of the top two like 12 months ago.
Merson predicts whether Leeds will be promoted
Merson was on the Sky Sports Gillette Soccer Special panel on Tuesday night and Leeds were among the topics he disussed.
Merson is ‘pleased’ to see Farke doing so well at Leeds after seeing how much pressure he was under just a matter of weeks ago from supporters.
Those comments from the former Arsenal and Aston Villa man actually came before Leeds’ win over the Hornets, and he has now delivered a fresh prediction after last night.
Via his official Twitter account, Merson hailed Leeds as a ‘massive club’ with a ‘huge fan base’, before then predicting the Whites to return to the Premier League this season.
He wrote: “Massive club and huge fan base! Can see Leeds getting back into the Premier League this year.”

Tom Cleverely hails Leeds as ‘top team’ after Watford defeat
Like Merson, more and more people across football are beginning to fancy Leeds as promotion favourites, perhaps none more so than Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder after Friday.
Watford boss Tom Cleverley wasn’t quite as resounding as Wilder post-match last night, but the former Manchester United midfielder did hail Leeds as a ‘top team‘ due to their ability to win when not at their best.
He said: “We were unfortunate to come away with nothing this evening, and it is a bit of a sore one, but sometimes that is football and you have to keep believing.
“Credit to Leeds, they are one of those sides that even when they are not at their best they know how to win, and that is a sign of a top team.”
