‘Outstanding’… Daniel Farke says Leeds completed one of their ‘best’ ever signings in the summer

Daniel Farke believes Sam Byram is one of the ‘best free transfers’ in Leeds United’s history.

Byram returned to the starting line-up for the first time since recovering from a hamstring injury against Plymouth Argyle earlier this month, and once again produced a superb performance.

The 30-year-old was brought in, in place of Junior Firpo at left-back and played a key role in Leeds returning to winning ways, particularly for the third goal.

Byram won a crunching 50/50 tackle on the halfway line, which set Georginio Rutter free in space, who then provided a perfect through ball for Dan James to lash home into the roof of the net.

Speaking in his post-match press conference after the game, Farke says Byram has enjoyed an ‘outstanding season’ up to this point.

Byram superb again for Leeds

Having worked with him at Norwich City, Farke claims he knew what Byram would bring to Leeds when he signed him, and believes he is among the best free transfers in the club’s history.

“I was 100 per cent sure what he would offer when we signed him. He must be one of the best free transfers in the history of Leeds United. He’s playing fantastic, an outstanding season so far.”

Byram’s crunching tackle for Leeds’ third goal is exactly what supporters love to see as he continues to just get better and better with every game he plays.

While Farke may have known what he could offer, there was definitely some scepticism about Byram returning, but he has more than proved any doubters he had wrong.

There is no doubt that the last couple of weeks have proved Byram is Leeds’ first choice left-back and so hopefully he can stay as injury free as possible this season.
