‘One of the best’… Darren Ferguson shares where Leeds are so dangerous after losing on Sunday

Darren Ferguson watched on as his Peterborough United side lost to Leeds United on Sunday in the third round of The FA Cup – saying Leeds are “one of the best” he’s ever seen in one specific area.

Ethan Ampadu took his total of career goals at professional level from one to three on the weekend. He had only scored once throughout his career on loan at Spezia last season. On Sunday, he got a brace.

But the plaudits have been stolen by Patrick Bamford, who never seems to shy away from the limelight. This time, for positive reasons. He chested an Ampadu pass before slamming home a 25-yard volley.

Two in two now, for Bamford. He looks as though his confidence is starring to return and will be hoping he gets his chance ahead of Joel Piroe when Leeds next play – away at Cardiff City on the weekend.

Peterborough manager Ferguson spoke after his side’s loss to BBC Sounds, and he declared that Leeds are one of the best teams he has ever watched – when it comes to Daniel Farke’s side in transition.

“In the last five minutes of the first half the game became very, very open which I didn’t want because they are one of the best teams I have seen in transition. We are good, but with the quality they have got.

“If we had lost 2-0 I would have been disappointed. When it gets to three it looks so easy for Leeds but that wasn’t the case,” Peterborough manager Ferguson said, when discussing his side’s 3-0 defeat.

Darren Ferguson has huge praise of Leeds United after 3-0 loss

Leeds were brilliant and it felt like a result that we really needed, after a poor run of results in December. It might have come as a reminder for us, that we can produce performances and form away from home.

Ampadu’s form had been questionable, but his brace will restore some confidence. Same for Bamford, who earned praise from Peter Crouch for his goal. Leeds target Connor Roberts applauded Ampadu.

Ahead of another away trip in the Championship next time out as we go to Wales to take on Cardiff City, Leeds have secured the perfect result. A clean sheet, three goals. Momentum is gaining once again.
