‘Nothing is guaranteed’… Leeds United may now have to wait until the end of the window to sign playmaker

Leeds United are looking likely to replicate their summer transfer strategy this month.

The Whites brought in five of their nine signings in the previous window during the final two weeks, and with January already approaching the half way mark, it is looking like the same again.

In fact, Leeds are said to be waiting for the transfer dominos to fall. They are prepared to be patient and wait for their first choice targets to become available, as per the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Leeds are working on signing at least one full-back before the end of the month having lost both Djed Spence and Luke Ayling on the right, with the left also still an area of concern.

But if links to Bournemouth’s David Brooks are indeed correct, then it would also appear they are keen on adding to their attacking options. TalkSPORT journalist Alex Crook has provided an update on Leeds’ interest in Brooks to Give Me Sport, again suggesting they will have to be patient.

He said: “Brooks has a lot of Championship interest, Leeds as well [as Southampton]. But I think with Bournemouth losing Hamed Traore because he’s got malaria, he won’t return anytime soon. Dango Ouattara is going to AFCON, so if they let them go, it will be towards the end of the window. Nothing is guaranteed.”

Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola has already addressed Brooks’ future to the media this month and did actually leave the door open for a potential exit.

However, as Crook alluded to, Bournemouth’s wide options have been weakened this month somewhat due to AFCON, with Antoine Semenyo, as well as the aforementioned Outtara, also away.

That said, Brooks has started just two Premier League matches all season, with the last one coming in October. He is considerably down the pecking order in terms of wide options under Iraola.

Leeds will face competition from Southampton if they want to secure his signing this month, but again, patience looks as though it will be key.
