Well-renowned Dutch agent Guido Albers has told Jim White on TalkSPORT (Friday, 10.10AM) that he expects Arne Slot to stay at Feyenoord amid heavy interest from Leeds United. Slot has guided Feyenoord to first in the Eredivisie.
Slot has starred in his role as Feyenoord boss, since joining the club in the summer of 2021. He saw his side reach the Conference League final last term. This season, they are top of the table – with a huge chance to win the title.
The 44-year-old has emerged as the front runner after Carlos Corberan signed a new West Brom deal. Andoni Iraola was blocked in his move to Leeds. TyC Sports say Marcelo Gallardo, who left River Plate, has an offer from Leeds.
Slot spoke in the week about interest from Leeds – hinting at being open to a move. He said he would consider an offer. But, the Independent since report that while he would cost just £5.75m, he is finding it hard to leave his club.
He has never left the Netherlands throughout his professional career. More than 400 league games as a player, and then, as a manager – AZ, and Feyenoord. Slot has never won the league. Albers gave his take on Slot joining Leeds.
White stated that while Albers is not Slot’s agent, he knows him well. Albers said: It’s absolutely no surprise [that Leeds are interested in taking him to Elland Road]. He’s been really successful here with Feyenoord.
“Personally, I think he will want to finish his job here – they’re going for the title. There’s a lot to do. But you never know in football. Every club is looking at young, talented coaches. 100% [I think he will stay at Feyenoord].”
Albers expects Slot to stay at Feyenoord amid Leeds interest
It looks as though Slot is going to remain at Feyenoord. He can hardly be blamed, why would he want to leave a club that are pushing towards a league title. The title of a league he has played in his whole life, without ever winning?
Leeds are primed and ready to get him in and he would cost a cheap-ish fee. But it is down to Slot and when push comes to shove, the overriding feeling right now is that Slot will probably stay at Feyenoord. The search continues.
