Argentine media TyC Sports claim Leeds United have now made an offer to bring in Marcelo Gallardo. The manager is out of work after leaving River Plate in December – but he is yet to give a response, asking for time before a decision.
Gallardo, 47, joined River in 2014 and was managed for more than eight years, leaving at the end of the 2022 season. An incredible effort, clocking up 424 games in charge as boss – and winning a very impressive 14 trophies for River.
Now, he is out of work. It is believed that he wanted to wait until the summer before taking a job in Europe. But clubs are showing interest already. Spanish site Marca reported this week that Gallardo rejected Ajax in the last few weeks.
Leeds have now made an offer to bring him in. But the report states that there is an issue, in what Gallardo does not know how to speak English. He is aware a translator can be used – but, feels being able to speak English is important.
He has informed Leeds that he would like time before making a decision. So, Leeds are awaiting his decision. Football London reporter Alasdair Gold reported in 2021 that many in Argentina believe he is similar to Mauricio Pochettino.

Gallardo’s work at River – the amount of titles, the loyalty shown, and the fact he is still only 47, is impressive. He is considered the best manager currently not working in Europe, by many. A move to Europe was inevitable for Gallardo.
But Leeds fans will want a manager that can come in and hit the ground running. Can Gallardo do that, if he does not speak English? Of course, Marcelo Bielsa didn’t either. But he is one in a million. Leeds need a boss that speaks English.
