Next Leeds manager: Another name on Leeds shortlist, Rodrigo knows him well

The Daily Record report that Nuno Espirito Santo is the latest name to be added to Leeds United’s managerial list as the club continue to scour the market for Jesse Marsch’s replacement – with two managers now rejecting a move.

Carlos Corberan, earlier in the week, decided to sign a new deal at West Brom until June 2027. Now, a move for Andoni Iraola has fallen through. He has decided to stay at Rayo Vallecano. Whether it was his decision, or the club, is unclear.

The new front runner is Feyenoord boss Arne Slot. He is said to be ‘seriously considering’ an offer to leave his current club – but it is said to be a tricky decision. Luis Sinisterra’s old boss has guided Feyenoord to the top of the table.

But plenty of others are being linked. Celtic’s Ange Postecoglou, who has impressed Mark Viduka, is in the mix. Now, a new name – Nuno. The ex-Tottenham and Wolves man is currently at Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad, with Helder Costa.

Indeed, Costa remains a Leeds player – and Nuno has formed a reunion with him in Saudi Arabia, having previously worked with the Angola star at Wolves. Barry Douglas, too. Rodrigo worked under Nuno while at La Liga side Valencia.

Now, Nuno’s arrival would not excite Leeds fans. But that is largely based on his time at Tottenham, where he did not cover himself in glory. Of course, that short stint as Spurs manager was accompanied by the saga around Harry Kane.

The heartbeat of Spurs, Kane, had his head turned and was not firing on all cylinders. Spurs struggled because of it and ultimately, it cost Nuno his job – lasting for just 10 League games. But his time at Wolves was excellent, beforehand.

Getting Wolves promoted with a huge 99 points in the Championship, he spent three seasons in the Premier League. He guided Wolves to two seventh-placed finishes, and then 13th in his last term. So, he can clearly do it in the league.

Not only that but as aforementioned, he picked Rodrigo 44 times at Valencia. That connection would help if Leeds made the surprise move to bring him back to the Premier League. File this one under unlikely, however.
