Michael Bridges believes the signing of Joel Piroe has transformed Georginio Rutter’s Leeds United career.
The two players have started all 13 games alongside one another since Piroe’s £10.5 million arrival from Swansea City, and are showing the signs of a promising partnership.
Rutter, in particular, has enjoyed a new lease of life this season after a tough few months following his January arrival from Hoffenheim, with Bridges attributing that to Piroe on the latest episode of the Official Leeds United Podcast.
Rutter started just one Premier League match in five months last term but has established himself as a key player under Daniel Farke since coming into the starting XI in the third game of the season.
Since starting together, the two have contributed to 15 goals. Rutter has three goals and five assists, while Piroe has netted six alongside one solitary assist.
Piroe and Rutter’s Leeds partnership growing
Bridges believes that Piroe’s arrival from Swansea has given Rutter a ‘new lease of life’ at Leeds due to the relationship they have built on the pitch.
He said: “You talk about partnerships and relationships with managers. I’ve got to say, Georginio Rutter was here last season in the Premier League and he came in with a huge price tag.
“We didn’t see the best of him, it was a tricky situation. I have got to say Joel, since you came in, the partnership you have bonded with him on the field, you have given him a new lease of life.”

Early on in the duo’s partnership there were too many matches where the understanding was not quite at its best, with 0-0 draws against Sheffield Wednesday and Hull City springing to mind.
However, that seems to be improving by the week at the moment with Piroe gaining more of an understanding of when to push forward, if Rutter is dropping deep.
Both have spoken regularly about how much they enjoy playing alongside one another in the last couple of months, and long may it continue.
