Georginio Rutter has told LUTV he feels he and Joel Piroe can become a strong “duo” for Leeds United, after scoring on Saturday in the win over Ipswich – Piroe and Rutter getting their first goals for the club.
Piroe, 24, was identified as the club’s main striker target this summer after scoring 44 goals in 92 games for Swansea during his first two years at the club – joining the Welsh side from PSV. Now, he is at Leeds.
He starred on Saturday afternoon. Not only did he score our third goal – after Rutter had rounded a few players to equalise, netting his first Leeds goal. Willy Gnonto getting a second, Luis Sinisterra our fourth.
Four goals away from home against the side that were at the top of the table going into this weekend’s fixtures. Defensively, not there yet. But in attacking terms, Leeds look good. Rutter and Piroe will be key.
Indeed, Sinisterra, Gnonto, Piroe and Rutter – as well as the likes of Dan James and Cree Summerville – must click quickly. A combination of Rutter and Piroe could be pivotal. Rutter is a fan of our new signing.
“Yeah of course [I enjoyed playing with him]. I didn’t know him before but now I see a good player. I like playing with him because we are like a good duo. Today was good. With a bit more training, even better.”

Leeds are going to need these new relationships to build all over the pitch. Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk at centre-back. Ethan Ampadu and Archie Gray in midfield. Luke Ayling and Willy Gnonto on the right.
Dan James and whoever is at left-back and of course, Rutter and Piroe if they are used together up top. With Gnonto and Sinisterra staying, Leeds almost immediately have numerous options in the final third.
But, if Rutter and Piroe can strike up an instant partnership – as they did against Ipswich – then Leeds have a real attacking force on their hands. Indeed, yesterday’s front four was incredibly powerful.
