Neil Redfearn says the 49ers have done something that has ‘caught up’ with Leeds United, it wasn’t smart

The 49ers will be hoping Leeds United are a Premier League club next season, but they might have shot themselves in the foot.

It’s proving clear that Daniel Farke is under pressure at Leeds.

Although it seems this way, Paraag Marathe sees Farke as a long-term plan, which gives a clear hint to his future with the club.

Farke can’t take all the blame for Leeds’ recent form though, as the Whites’ hierarchy should be questioned.

This is exactly what Neil Redfearn has done, and he can’t get his head around a decision they made previously.

If Leeds don’t achieve promotion, many fingers will be pointed, and the 49ers will have to prepare for uproar.

Darren Bent thinks Leeds will get playoffs, and that seems to be the consensus from most pundits at the moment.

Redfearn isn’t sure on that just yet, but what he is sure on is a major error made by the 49ers in January.

Speaking to talkSPORT (7:36am), the former Leeds boss has claimed that a key element has ‘caught up’ with Farke, and it stems from the 49ers’ choices.

“If you look at Leeds throughout the season, they’ve kept the same system, the same personnel,” Redfearn said.

“It’s only when the season has come to its climax he’s starting to make decisions.

“Not having a recognised striker has caught up with him.”

The striker who got away from Leeds in January could punish Farke

With this being said, you can’t deny it’s the truth.

Despite Joel Piroe’s success this season, the Dutchman has run out of steam in the promotion race.

Mateo Joseph can’t seem to get a look in, injured or not, and the only other is Patrick Bamford, who is known for his injuries.

The 49ers not signing a striker was strange as it was clear a forward was needed, and they could’ve done so with Kelechi Iheanacho, who was of interest to Leeds.

Iheanacho has since made the move to Middlesbrough and could prove to haunt Farke on Tuesday night when Michael Carrick meets the Leeds boss.

Judging by the Nigerian’s last performance for Boro, it could spell serious trouble for the Whites.

Although he’s shown to be a creative spark at Boro, even Piroe has lacked that, showing how Iheanacho could’ve been an option to be relied upon late in the season.
