It was another special night at Elland Road on Wednesday night as Leeds United returned to the top of the Championship table with a comfortable 3-0 win over relegated Luton Town.

Having dropped into fourth on Tuesday night, Leeds were required to pick up a tenth win of the season against Luton to return to the Championship summit. They did just that, also securing a 10th clean sheet.

Luton had a couple of chances, with Illan Meslier making a few saves and Pascal Struijk producing a super goalline clearance. But other than that, it was dominance from Leeds who scored three excellent goals.

Sam Byram scored a stunning scissor kick, his first of the season. Joel Piroe made it seven for the season from a set-piece, a rarity at Elland Road and then a third came late on through substitute Dan James.

Neil Redfearn heaps huge praise on Leeds star Sam Byram

Byram continued in the starting line-up after an assist against Swansea, with Junior Firpo serving the last of his three-match ban. The 31-year-old opened his account this season, his 12th career Leeds strike.

The Elland Road star has been excellent, living up to Stuart Dallas’ nickname of “Mr. Reliable”. His former Leeds manager Neil Redfearn gave his verdict on Byram, when speaking to BBC Radio Leeds last night.

“He were always a dream to work with, an absolute dream. All for the cause, he’d sooner his teammates gets the limelight. He knows where his place is at the moment, he knows he’s not an out-and-out starter.”

Such has Byram’s form been of late, he might even give Farke a little bit of a tough time in dropping him for Firpo. Aidy White says Byram would start week in, week out if he did not pick up so many injuries.

Firpo will return for Blackburn on Saturday at Ewood Park with Byram coming off due to a muscle issue. But if he is fit, it would be more than understandable to see the versatile ace start once again for Leeds.
