Willy Gnonto and Italy secured third place in the Nations League on Sunday evening, beating The Netherlands 3-2 in a highly-exciting match – and Italian media praised the linked-away Leeds star for his display, nabbing an assist.

Gnonto, 19, is one of many players expected to leave Leeds this summer. He has plenty of interest in his services, from both England and Italy. CM recently said that Milan and Fiorentina had asked, but are unwilling to pay £18m.

Football Transfers claim Everton are supposedly in talks for the Italian. In the mean time, Gnonto has been with Roberto Mancini’s Italy. He came on in the loss to Spain in the semi-finals as a sub, and then started on Sunday.

He got an assist for Davide Frattesi as Italy went on to win 3-2. Inter’s Federico Dimarco had given Italy the lead, before Juve’s Fede Chiesa made it 3-1 after Steven Bergwijn netted. Gini Wijnaldum made it 3-2, but not enough.

TMW ran a player ratings piece and they gave their verdict on Gnonto’s display, which saw him substituted on 63 minutes and replaced by Nicolo Zaniolo – a player that Leeds wanted in January. He certainly impressed for Italy.

“Gnonto 6.5 – Plays simple, does it well. Game of great tactical discipline wide to the right, precise when called into question,” TMW reported on Sunday evening, following Italy’s win over The Netherlands at FC Twente’s ground.

Italian media praise Leeds star Gnonto as Italy beat The Netherlands

Plenty of clubs will be watching and as Gnonto won his 12th cap, the Everton report emerged. It is going to be a lot of rumours this summer, until Gnonto does make a decision. One thing is for sure, it is a move that will take time.

That is because, after representing Italy’s senior side in the Nations League, Gnonto is now due to jet off with the U21 side to represent his country in the EURO’s. Charlie Cresswell is in the England squad, and plenty of others too.
