Leeds United’s Welsh quartet are 90 minutes away from finding out whether they will be playing at the EUROs this summer.
Wales host Poland in Cardiff this evening where the winner will seal their passage into the European Championships in Germany, which take place after the culmination of the club season.
Rob Page’s side defeated Glen Kamara’s Finland 4-1 in the semi-finals last week, with all four of Leeds‘ Welshman playing a key role in the victory.
Joe Rodon, Connor Roberts and Ethan Ampadu all started the match, while Dan James came off the bench like he has done in recent weeks for Leeds, and got on the scoresheet.
James‘ fresh legs proved too much for the away side and that was telling in his goal, as he pressed the defender into a mistake, before rounding the goalkeeper and scoring.
Despite his lack of starts since coming back from an injury he suffered in January, James clearly has not let that affect his confidence, with his level of impact still the same.
Wales manager Page says Leeds star is full of confidence ahead of Poland final
Speaking to Sky Sports on Monday, Wales manager Page has been previewing the game and highlighted one Leeds star as someone who is full of confidence.
Page has already labelled Ampadu as a future captain of his country, but has now highlighted James for praise after his goal the other night.
It is highly likely James will start on the bench once again this evening with David Brooks, Harry Wilson and Brennan Johnson seemingly the first choice front three.
However, Page says it was ‘really good’ to see James deliver such a performance from the bench and believes it is down to the confidence he has got from his season at Leeds.
He said: “I thought we did well to get the job finished against Finland, particularly Dan James coming on, with bags of confidence that he’s got from doing well at club level. To give a performance like that is really good for us.”
James one of several Leeds players in international action over next 24 hours
James is just one of a number of Leeds players in action for their respective country over the next 24 hours, and Daniel Farke will certainly be keeping his fingers crossed they all return with a clean bill of health.
As mentioned above, the Welsh contingent are in action at home against Poland, with the game getting underway at 7.45pm. Liam Cooper’s Scotland are in friendly action at the same time at home to Northern Ireland.
Junior Firpo, meanwhile, does not get his second match of the break for the Dominican Republic underway until 1.30am UK time on Wednesday morning in Peru.
Archie Gray, Charlie Cresswell, Willy Gnonto and Mateo Joseph are all also set to feature at U21s level for England, Italy and Spain respectively this evening.
