Midfielder rules out Daniel Farke reunion at Leeds United

Daniel Farke has taken another blow in the transfer market as another deal has been ruled out.

Leeds United and the 49ers will be hoping for consistency in the transfer market but will also need to impress if they return to the Premier League.

The consensus around the club is that the 49ers will sign Premier League targets showing the fans they mean business.

But Farke will no doubt have specific targets he hopes to land, and Jurgen Klopp could help Leeds in the summer.

Well, a target Farke would’ve taken in a heartbeat has just said no regarding a move to Elland Road.

Although Farke is seemingly happy with his squad, changes will be made in the transfer window.

The lack of consistency in recent weeks from the Whites shows exactly why Farke needs serious recruitment.

But the Leeds boss won’t get that with Julian Weigl whom he used to manage at Borussia Monchengladbach.

Speaking to the Print Edition of Rheinische Post (22/03/25) Weigl responded to claims that Leeds were interested due to Farke’s relationship with the midfielder, but the German has completely denied those claims.

“When I extended my contract here (Gladbach), it was a commitment for the near future,” Weigl said.

“I still have three years left on my contract, and I can see what’s developing here, that something is growing. I find that exciting.”

Leeds miss out on Weigl who has been compared to Sergio Busquets

Farke might have to take this rejection with a pinch of salt, as the Leeds boss can’t be too reliant on his current defensive midfield options.

Captain Ethan Ampadu is no doubt a key component of the squad, but his injury struggles remain a problem, as Ampadu won’t return to Leeds till April.

Adding onto this Ilia Gruev has shown he hasn’t been the commanding stalwart Leeds need in the middle of the park at times meaning missing out on Weigl could be crucial.

Weigl’s former teammate, Marc Barta once said to the Print Edition of Mundo Deportivo (10/11/16) that Weigl is like ‘Sergio Busquets’ which is some comparison.

Farke could’ve no doubt done with someone like the 29-year-old but he’ll have to make do with other options.
