Tuesday night sees Leeds United go to Middlesbrough in what will be the hardest of their remaining six Championship games, if going off current league position.
Boro sit fifth in the Championship with Michael Carrick’s side looking good for a play-off position behind one of Leeds, Burnley or Sheffield United and then Sunderland in fourth. Five wins from their last seven.
Leeds meanwhile, could only dream of such form. One win in six games, three draws in a row and now sitting in third having been five points clear at the top of the table after a 3-1 win at Sheffield United.
But Sheffield United’s loss to Oxford United has kept the race for automatic promotion very interesting. Just two points separate all three sides and a win could still see Leeds climb back into first place.

Middlesbrough’s injury news with 9 players potentially missing
Middlesbrough’s recent form is all the more remarkable given their extensive injury crisis, after losing star striker Emmanuel Latte Lath in January to MLS side Atlanta United – costing a record £17.75m transfer fee.
Carrick could be without 9 players on Tuesday night. Six players will definitely be missing on Tuesday night, and three others are doubts with Elland Road icon Luke Ayling currently sidelined through injury.
Neto Borges is a doubt after picking up an ankle injury against Blackburn last time out, while centre-back duo Dael Fry and George Edmundson are expected back soon – but if it is in time for Leeds, who knows.
Middlesbrough’s injury list ahead of Leeds United clash:
- Ben Doak – out for season (thigh surgery)
- Luke Ayling – expected out for season (ankle)
- Seny Dieng – out for sustained period (achilles)
- Sol Brynn – out for sustained period (dislocated shoulder)
- Darragh Leninhan – out since September 2023 (ankle)
- Alex Bangura – out since April 2024 (achilles)
- Neto Borges – doubt (ankle)
- Dael Fry – doubt (calf)
- George Edmundson – doubt (ankle)
Leeds United’s injury status is a whole lot better than Boro’s
Just last Thursday, Daniel Farke confirmed he had a clean bill of health. However, the gap between press conference and the away clash at Luton saw Joe Rothwell pick up an injury and Mateo Joseph become ill.
Joseph should be okay for Tuesday night, though Pascal Struijk suffered an injury late on against Luton in the 1-1 draw. Rothwell will certainly be missing on Tuesday and Struijk could join him on the sidelines.
But Leeds have a much better injury list than Boro and fans can also take confidence from Farke’s record against Middlesbrough. A record of eight wins from 10, losing once – the Carabao Cup loss this season.
