After just one win in six Championship matches and three consecutive draws, Leeds United’s push for automatic promotion is hanging in the balance after Daniel Farke’s men slipped into third.

Daniel Farke has reiterated that he remains 100% confident that Leeds will be playing in the Premier League next season. But, Leeds fans are not as convinced, having watched their side draw against Luton.

Luckily for Leeds, Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to Oxford United at the Kassam Stadium following Leeds’ lunchtime kick-off. All-conquering Burnley now sit in first position.

With six games to go, time is running out for Farke’s men to get back on track and reignite their push for the top two. They go to Middlesbrough on Tuesday night, a side that has already beaten Leeds this term.

Daniel Farke’s record against Middlesbrough is excellent

Indeed, Boro came to Elland Road in the Carabao Cup – the second game of the season. The squad were much-changed and took on Michael Carrick’s side moments after learning Georginio Rutter was going.

They were beaten 3-0, but Leeds responded at Elland Road in the league with a 3-1 win in December. Carrick’s men are pushing for a play-off place and currently sit in fifth, after five wins in seven matches.

But the 3-0 Cup defeat back in August was Farke’s only loss against Middlesbrough in 10 matches against the Teesside club. Indeed, the 3-1 win in December was actually his eighth – a stunning record vs Boro.

Leeds United injury news ahead of Middlesbrough clash

During the press conference ahead of the 1-1 draw at Luton, Farke basically confirmed he had a clean bill of health. But as soon as he said that, Joe Rothwell picked up a calf injury and will be out for a few weeks.

Pascal Struijk limped off against Luton towards the end and Farke said he was struggling to walk, with the manager set to provide more details on Monday during his pre-Middlesbrough press conference.

Mateo Joseph was missing due to illness and is expected to be okay, while first signs appear that Patrick Bamford and Max Wober came through their Luton cameo roles unscathed and will be fit for selection.
