Micah Richards points finger at £10m Leeds United ace instead of Illan Meslier after Swansea City draw

Illan Meslier is taking the heat for Leeds United’s draw with Swansea City on Saturday afternoon and it is not the first time the Frenchman has been to blame this season.

The Frenchman is enduring his worst season as a Leeds United player. Meslier has made so many huge errors that he could have his own goalkeeper bloopers reel just from this season, the latest on Saturday.

A 2-2 draw with Swansea that saw Meslier drop the ball at the feet of Harry Darling from a corner, and then allowing a Zan Vipotnik shot to go straight through him from a tight angle – in the 96th minute.

It is not the first time. His bizarre concession at Sunderland, his three howlers against Hull. Daniel Farke has defended Meslier before, but Aidy White feels Meslier is inexcusable this time around after Saturday.

Micah Richards blames another Leeds player aside from Meslier

Leeds had taken the lead through Brenden Aaronson, but Meslier’s drop from a corner saw Darling score his second goal of the season against Leeds. Willy Gnonto thought he’d won it after coming on as a sub.

But then, Leeds lose the ball from their own throw in with seconds left. A catalogue of errors, with £10m-rated Mateo Joseph losing the ball and Richards has blamed the striker on The Rest Is Football’s podcast.

“Poor Meslier, a penalty save – oustanding. First goal, he drops it. I don’t think the second one is his fault, they give it away in midfield, yes he could do better but it’s not his fault. It ruined my weekend.”

Farke’s loyalty to his starting XI knows no bounds. Aaronson for example, has now started 37 League games in a row despite struggling for form in recent months. Meslier continues to remain no.1.

Karl Darlow’s form for Wales should have given Farke food for thought during the March break. But Ross McCormack thinks Darlow is not good enough to replace Meslier, and that may be why Meslier remains.

He might not deserve it, but the likelihood is that Darlow will remain on the bench on Saturday and Farke will continue with Meslier because the risk of putting Darlow in now, is bigger than keeping Meslier in.
