Alan Brazil has shared his verdict on Leeds United’s automatic promotion hopes after last night’s FA Cup win at Plymouth Argyle.

The Whites eventually progressed through to the fifth round of the competition at the expense of their Championship counterparts, with a 4-1 win after extra-time, having again been held to a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes.

In truth, though, Leeds should’ve had the game wrapped up a long time before then. They hit the post three times in normal time, but did not let that affect them with their strength in depth from the bench the difference.

Daniel Farke was able to call on the likes of Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter, both of whom provided a goal and assist apiece for one another.

Speaking on talkSPORT about Leeds’ automatic promotion hopes, Brazil claims he had all but written off the Whites but feels with the form they are showing, they are now more than capable.

Brazil talks up Leeds’ top two hopes

“When you look at Leeds and the type of form they are in, the togetherness, they are helping each other, the enthusiasm they are showing is fantastic. It really is. And I look at the table now, we talk about how well Leicester and Southampton are doing.

“Leicester are there, they ain’t coming back. But Southampton 61 [points], Leeds 60, Ipswich 59. I was going to say Leeds and Ipswich destined for the play offs but maybe not. Maybe Leeds have their eyes on that [top two].”

Any other season, Leeds would’ve probably been sat top of the league right now with the points tally they have amassed. They currently sit five points ahead of where they were during Marcelo Bielsa’s title-winning campaign.

However, as Southampton boss Russell Martin alluded to at the weekend, there are four teams performing at a level never been seen in the Championship before.

All Leeds can do at this stage is keep putting the pressure on those ahead of them in the hope that Southampton eventually slip up.
