Marcus Rashford has told Gary Neville’s Overlap that he would back himself to be the quickest player at Manchester United, now Dan James has left Old Trafford – with the Wales winger now back at Leeds United, ahead of 2023-24.
James, 25, left Manchester United after just 74 games for our rivals – having a hand in 18 goals. He joined Leeds in 2021, costing a whopping £25m – but he has failed to live up to that fee. He went on loan to Fulham during 22-23.
Three goals in 23 games, another difficult season. It seems James has accepted that he is going to be playing in the Championship, and is now back at Leeds with three years still left to run on his contract. He could be a real weapon.
Rashford was the latest guest on The Overlap this week and during a quickfire round of questions, he was asked if he was the quickest player at Old Trafford. The £375k-a-week man said he or Diego Dalot are, now James has left.
“The quickest current United player? Probably me. Someone who doesn’t look that quick? Diogo does really well on the sprint test. I think so (I’m the fastest), it would be close but I think I’d take it because Dan James has left now.”

Leeds have an abundance of wingers and a decision needs to be made on which players will stay, and which will go. Jack Harrison has been ruled out of action until the first international break. Willy Gnonto looks set to leave the club.
Luis Sinisterra was linked with an exit, but Phil Hay says Leeds are yet to be tested in regards to the Colombian star. Cree Summerville has admirers but he was in action against Monaco. Helder Costa, James and Ian Poveda are back.
They spent the 22-23 season out on loan at Al-Ittihad, Fulham and Blackpool last season. Georginio Rutter is likely to be used as a wide option. But James will be at Leeds next season – arguably, the most certain of the whole lot.
