Manager that Leeds United have been keeping tabs on is set to join European giants today

There is no doubting Daniel Farke’s job security at the moment. He may come in for criticism from Leeds United fans here and there, but he is a victim of his own incredible success.

The Leeds boss clocked up an enormous 90 points this season but as Leeds fans are frustratingly aware, last season was an anomaly. It was the first time a team achieved the 90-point mark without going up.

This season, Farke has guided Leeds above the two-point-a-game mark with 45 points from 22 so far. A total of 135 points from 68 games, meaning he is averaging 2.03 points – more than Marcelo Bielsa.

In his two seasons in the Championship, Bielsa averaged 1.91. It means that Farke is outperforming Bielsa at least, in England’s second tier but that has not stopped Leeds keeping tabs on replacements.

Valencia set to announce Carlos Corberan as new manager

Carlos Corberan has been linked with a number of different jobs as he continues to work wonders over at West Brom. On a shoe string, he guided West Brom to the play-offs last term and is doing so this term.

Leicester considered Corberan before Ruud van Nistelrooy, and so did Southampton. Leeds have been keeping tabs on Corberan ahead of a possible future move to bring him back to Leeds after his 2020 exit.

However, Fabrizio Romano has an update. Valencia decided to sack Ruben Baraja last week, and have now activated the £2.5m release clause in Corberan’s West Brom contract with a deal set to be done today.

He said: “Carlos Corberán, set to sign as new Valencia head coach until June 2027 as replacement for Baraja. Release clause over €3m triggered and Corberán will sign for Valencia in the next 24h.”

Carlos Corberan will be hoping Valencia is better than Olympiakos

Corberan is now set for his fourth major managerial spell. Having taken over at Huddersfield Town in the Championship and taking them to the play-offs in 2022, Greek giants Olympiakos made their move.

But, that lasted just 11 games with Corberan winning twice and it wasn’t long before he was back in the place he knows best, the Championship. West Brom came calling and he has remained for 107 games.

Renowned for his defensive, hard-working style of play, Corberan will now be hoping that his second venture away from England’s second tier is a lot more profitable than the first one, over in Greece.
